PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS has crossplay, but only between platforms inside the same pool. Consoles play with consoles and PC plays with PC, but not across that line.
There are two separate crossplay pools, not one shared world. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S sit together in a console pool, Steam and Epic Games Store sit together in a PC pool, and the two pools never mix in any mode. Valorant splits its console and PC pools the same way, as our guide on whether Valorant is crossplay explains.
So if a Steam friend wants to squad with you on PS5, that's the one thing PUBG won't let you do right now, and Krafton has announced no timeline to change it.
Which platforms actually play together
Here's the full picture in one place.
| Platforms | Play together? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 + Xbox Series X|S | Yes | One shared console matchmaking pool since Krafton's console service update. PS4 and Xbox One were retired after November 13, 2025 and no longer run PUBG at all. |
| PC: Steam + Epic Games Store | Yes | Steam and Epic players share one PC matchmaking pool. |
| PC + console (any combination) | No | No shared matchmaking between the PC pool and the console pool in any mode. Krafton has given no announced timeline to change this. |
The short read: pick your side of the fence and you'll match with everyone else on that side. Fortnite pools every platform together instead, as our guide on Fortnite's crossplay shows.
The console pool got smaller in 2025
This is the part older guides miss. After the November 13, 2025 console service update, PUBG stopped running on PS4 and Xbox One entirely.
So the console pool is now PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. If you're still on last-gen hardware, PUBG isn't a crossplay option there anymore, because it isn't playable there at all.
Cross-progression is a different question, and the answer is no
People mix up crossplay and cross-progression constantly, so it's worth splitting them. Crossplay is who you can match with. Cross-progression is whether your account, cosmetics, and stats follow you to another platform.
PUBG doesn't have cross-progression across the PC and console line. Your Krafton ID links your account, but it won't carry cosmetics, stats, or progress between PC and console, or between PlayStation and Xbox.
The one exception is staying inside the same console family through a hardware upgrade. Move from PS4 to PS5 with a linked Krafton account and your progress comes with you, because that's the same platform family, not a jump across it. Our Apex Legends crossplay guide explains its matchmaking rules.
How to turn PUBG crossplay on and invite a friend
Crossplay is on by default, so most players never touch a setting. It's still worth a look on your first launch.
On console, open Settings, go to Gameplay Settings, and confirm Cross-Platform Play is set to On. It defaults to on for PlayStation, but reporting suggests it can start off on Xbox, so check the toggle either way before you queue.
Once the setting's confirmed, invite a friend from the other console through the in-game friends list and party up. PC players on Steam and Epic add each other the same way. There's no PC-to-console invite path, because that pool boundary isn't a setting you can flip.
How to turn PUBG crossplay off
If you'd rather match only with players on your own console platform, you can switch it off. Go to Settings, then Gameplay Settings, and set Cross-Platform Play to Off.
That restricts your matchmaking to the same console platform. For more to play on PlayStation, our roundup of the best PS5 shooter games is a good start. There's no equivalent PC-to-console toggle, because that crossplay doesn't exist to disable in the first place.
Voice chat follows the pool
In-game proximity and team voice chat work across the console crossplay pool, so a PS5 and an Xbox Series X|S player in the same match can talk normally. The same goes inside the PC pool.
Voice doesn't cross the PC-console boundary, and it can't, since those players never share a lobby to begin with.
Clearing up the common PUBG crossplay claims
A few outdated lines still float around, so here's the record straight. PUBG does not have full crossplay between PC and console. The two pools are walled off from each other, and no game mode bridges them. Our Battlefield 2042 crossplay guide explains which platforms can play together.
Older guides also list PS4 and Xbox One as crossplay platforms. That stopped being true after the November 13, 2025 update pulled PUBG from both, so treat any current claim of last-gen PUBG crossplay as stale.

And to be precise on one detail we always double-check: the per-platform default for the crossplay toggle comes from community reporting, not from Krafton's official console update post, which is why we tell you to confirm the setting yourself on first launch.
