Is Apex Legends crossplay? Platforms and cross-progression

Apex Legends has full crossplay, and every current platform shares one matchmaking pool by default, so a PC player, a PlayStation player, an Xbox player, and a Nintendo Switch 2 player can all drop into the same match together.

There's one catch worth knowing up front. Console players can opt out and match only with their own platform, but PC players are always in the crossplay pool and can't switch it off.

The other thing that trips people up is Nintendo. As of Season 30, the original Switch is out of the picture entirely, so Switch 2 is now the only Nintendo hardware in the pool.

Which platforms play together

Apex runs one shared pool across every platform it currently supports, so there's no separate console-only version of the game to plan around unless you deliberately opt out.

PC here means the EA app, the Epic Games Store, and Steam, and all three sit in the same pool as the consoles. That single pool is most of the answer: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 players are all queuing together unless someone has turned crossplay off. Why the original Switch is no longer in the pool

If you're reading an older guide that lists the original Nintendo Switch as a supported Apex platform, that's now out of date. EA officially ended support for the original Switch starting August 4, 2026, which lines up with the start of Season 30.

That means the original Switch isn't just cut out of crossplay, it's no longer playable at all on that hardware. Switch 2 is the only Nintendo platform left in the game, and it plays in the same pool as PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Cross-progression: does your account carry between platforms?

Yes, and it's worth keeping separate from crossplay, because people mix the two up. Crossplay is about playing together across platforms; cross-progression is about your account following you between them.

Apex cross-progression rolled out fully starting Season 19 in October 2023, and it's been standard since. Once your platforms are linked to the same EA Account, your account level, unlocked Legends, cosmetics, and Battle Pass progress carry across all of them.

There are two limits to know. If you created your EA Account after October 26, 2023, it can only link going forward, so it can't merge with an older account you already had on a different platform.

The second one is specific to Nintendo. Purchased Apex Coins from the original Switch transfer only to Nintendo Switch 2, not to PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, so plan your platform move around that if you're carrying a currency balance.

How to squad up across platforms

Crossplay is on automatically the first time you log in, so most of the setup is just adding the right people. Friends are added by their EA or Apex ID rather than by a platform username. If you play mostly on Sony hardware, our roundup of the best PS5 shooters lines up your next drop.

Open the in-game friends list, add your cross-platform friend by their EA/Apex ID, and party up exactly the way you would with someone on your own platform. From there you invite them into your squad the same way, and the game handles the mixed lobby for you.

How to turn crossplay off

This one is console-only. On PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch 2, open the in-game settings and turn off cross-platform play to matchmake with players on your own platform only.

Voice chat across platforms

In-game party and proximity voice chat work the same regardless of platform. Because every supported platform shares one crossplay pool and one party system, a mixed PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch 2 squad can talk together with nothing extra to install.
