Rainbow Six Siege has crossplay, but only between the PC pool and the consoles that choose to join it. PC players are always in crossplay and can't switch it off, while PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S players can toggle it on or off.
So the short version we give people is "yes, with a catch." Console players decide whether they face PC lobbies, and PC players don't get that choice.
One thing to set up front: the game relaunched as Rainbow Six Siege X in 2025, and everything below is the current, post-Siege X behavior.

How the PC and console pools work
Flip crossplay off on console and you drop into the console-only pool. That's the row labeled Xbox Series X|S (crossplay off): every PlayStation and Xbox generation still plays together, and PC is simply removed from your matches.
Turn it back on, or party up with a PC friend, and the whole squad moves into the PC pool. For a console that has opted in, that's the Xbox (crossplay on) row.
On top of that, Rainbow Six Siege runs input-based matchmaking, the Controller vs Mouse+Keyboard split. Controller and mouse/keyboard players are kept in separate lobbies where possible, and any squad mixing the two matchmakes into mouse/keyboard lobbies. Cross-progression and cross-save
Cross-progression is a separate feature from crossplay, and it's the mix-up we see most. Rainbow Six Siege does have it, automatically, tied to your Ubisoft Connect account rather than to any single platform.
Link the platforms you play on to the same Ubisoft account and your Operators, cosmetics, in-game currencies, and Battle Pass content carry across all of them. There's one limit: ranked progress and rank are tracked separately for the PC pool and the console pool, even though your unlocks and cosmetics are shared. How to turn crossplay on
On PC there's nothing to switch, because crossplay is always on and can't be disabled.
On console (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S), open Options > General and turn Crossplay Matchmaking on. From there you can group with and matchmake against PC players, and joining a PC party moves your whole squad into the PC pool right away.
How to turn crossplay off
This one is console-only. Go to Options > General > Crossplay Matchmaking and toggle it off, which returns you to the console-only pool that still combines PlayStation and Xbox.

Voice chat across platforms
In-game voice chat works across platforms for anyone grouped in the same cross-platform party or match. It follows the same split as matchmaking, so the PC pool and the console pool stay separate and voice tracks whichever pool you're in.
The detail most guides get wrong
Turning off crossplay on console does not split PlayStation and Xbox apart. The toggle only decides whether PC players are in your matches, and PlayStation and Xbox stay in one combined console pool either way.
The other one we keep seeing repeated: there's no PC-side off switch. If a guide tells you PC players can drop to a console-only pool, that's not how Siege X works. Destiny 2 does let PC and console share most activities, as our Destiny 2 crossplay guide covers.
