Every cheat in Red Dead Redemption is a typed phrase, not a button combo. You pause the game, open Options, choose Cheats, and key in the exact wording, punctuation and all. Get it right and you can switch on invincibility, spawn a horse, max out Dead Eye, or drop $500 into your pocket whenever you want.
The one thing to settle before you touch a code: turning on any cheat blocks achievements and trophies and shuts off autosave for that session, and it tags any save you make afterward as a Cheat Save. Keep a separate save for messing around and your main run stays clean.
There are 38 confirmed cheats here, plus one long-running mystery nobody has pinned down. Twenty-one work from the moment you start; the other 17 began as Rockstar Social Club challenge rewards and were opened up to everyone by a 2014 update. We have grouped them all below by what they do, with the exact phrase for each.
Cheats you can use from the start
These 21 phrases are live from your first minute of play. Type each one exactly as written in the Cheats menu. Case does not matter, but every apostrophe, comma, and exclamation mark does.

Two of these read oddly on purpose. Infinite Dead Eye needs the misspelled "Imnfinity"; the correctly spelled word does nothing. Jack Attack can also scramble story-mission scripting, so we would only flip it on in free roam.

The Money code is repeatable. Re-enter the phrase, exclamation mark included, for another $500 each time.

Wording for the Lewis and Clark phrase drifts a little across older fan pages; the version above is the one most sources agree on. Diplomatic Immunity in the player table has the same fuzziness around its exact scope, so treat it as wanted-level immunity rather than a full bounty wipe.
Cheats that started as Social Club challenge rewards
This group is the real history lesson. About 18 cheats were originally locked behind Rockstar Social Club Challenges, so you earned them by hitting stat targets tracked through the old GameSpy servers. When that tracking was retired, Rockstar's Title Update 1.08 in June 2014 unlocked the lot for every player, as PlayStation LifeStyle documented at the time. You no longer need a Social Club account for any of them. Rockstar's other big cheat set, the GTA 5 cheat codes for Xbox, uses live button inputs instead of typed phrases.
The difference in the menu is simple: you type the cheat's name directly rather than a themed phrase.

A couple of caveats worth flagging. So-So Guy sits in this group per gamerant's count of the Social Club cheats, but only one detailed source ties it to that gate; other pages list it as a standard from-start cheat, so its origin is the shakiest entry here. Every Shot Counts was described by one source as a PS3 and Game of the Year Edition exclusive at launch, a restriction we could not confirm anywhere else.
Right to Bear Arms and Rise Up are close cousins, but not the same. Right to Bear Arms just hands weapons out; Rise Up makes those civilians turn on you, so armed townsfolk can get unpredictable fast.
There is also one code, "Hitchcock," that shows up on some listings with no effect anyone can demonstrate. Its outcome is unconfirmed, and it has stayed an unsolved community curiosity for years, so we have left it out of the working tables above rather than promise something it may not do.
How to enter cheats on each platform
The menu path is the same everywhere. Pause the game, open Options, and select Cheats to bring up an on-screen keyboard. Type the phrase, confirm, and the cheat toggles on. Phrases are not case-sensitive, but punctuation has to match exactly.
- Xbox 360. Press Y at the Cheats screen to open the keyboard, then type the phrase.
- PS3. Press Triangle at the Cheats screen to open the keyboard, then type the phrase.
- PS4 and Switch (2023 re-release). Press Triangle on PS4 or X on Switch to open the keyboard, then type the phrase. The re-release is a direct port rather than a rebuilt remaster, so it keeps the exact same typed-phrase system and menu path as the original.
One platform note that trips people up: for fourteen years there was no PC version at all. The game launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2010, the 2023 port added PS4 and Switch, and Rockstar finally shipped an official PC release in October 2024. What cheats switch off: trophies, achievements, and saves
Turn on any cheat and the game stops handing out Achievements on Xbox 360 and Trophies on PS3, PS4, and Switch for the rest of that session. Autosave switches off at the same time, and any manual save you make while a cheat is active is permanently marked a Cheat Save.
Toggling the cheat back off does not undo this. To make Achievements and Trophies eligible again, you have to reload a save from before the cheat was ever switched on. That is the whole case for keeping a throwaway save file: it lets you spawn horses, hand out incendiary rounds, and turn on invincibility without quietly locking your clean run out of its rewards.
Where to start your cheat run
Spin up a spare save, grab Gun Set 4 and Dead-Eye Level 3 for the full arsenal, and keep Jack Attack, Right to Bear Arms, and Rise Up parked until you are out in free roam and clear of a story mission. That gives you the whole sandbox without breaking a script or locking your main save out of trophies. The RDR2 cheats work as typed phrases too, with a longer list to dig into.
