Red Dead Redemption 2 keeps 37 cheat phrases behind a text box in the pause menu, and between them they cover most of the game: full weapon loadouts, an unlimited Dead Eye meter, instant horses and wagons, a flat $500 top-up, Honor pinned to its highest or lowest setting, and the map with its fog stripped away.
One thing decides how you use them, so settle it first. The moment you switch on any cheat, the game stops saving and locks off PlayStation Trophies and Xbox Achievements for the rest of that session. Load a clean save, have your fun, and never expect a cheat run to stick.
29 of the 37 codes work the instant you open the menu. The other eight stay dark until you buy a specific in-game newspaper, which only goes on sale as you clear chapters. We've grouped everything below by what it does, followed by the exact entry steps, the save warning in full, and the newspaper unlocks.
Every Red Dead Redemption 2 cheat code
Type each phrase exactly as written. Capitalization is ignored, but every comma, period, apostrophe, and exclamation mark has to match or the code won't register. Cheats marked as a newspaper unlock are covered in their own section further down.

The five Dead Eye level codes are separate settings, not a stacking upgrade. Entering one replaces the last, so pick the behavior you want rather than working through them in order.

How to enter a cheat on PS4, Xbox One, and PC
The steps are almost identical across platforms, and the shape is always the same: Pause menu > Settings > Cheats prompt > type the phrase. You never type a code during normal play; it all happens through a settings screen. That's unlike the GTA 5 cheats, which are live button inputs you enter during play.
On PS4, pause the game and open the Settings tab. Press Triangle to open the Cheats screen, then press Triangle again to open the text-entry box. Type the exact phrase, then save the game afterward so the cheat stays listed for good. From then on you toggle it on or off from that same screen.
On Xbox One, the flow is the same, but you press Y instead of Triangle to open the Cheats screen and again to open the text box.
On PC, pause and open the Settings tab, then select the Cheats prompt shown in the bottom-right corner with a mouse click or the keyboard and controller equivalent. Type the phrase into the box, and once it registers you can flip the cheat on or off from the same menu.
Two rules apply everywhere. Capitalization doesn't matter, so lower case is fine, but punctuation does, so a missing comma or apostrophe will stop the code from taking.
What turning on a cheat switches off
This is the trade you accept every time. Switching on any cheat immediately stops the game from saving, by autosave and by manual save alike, and blocks PlayStation Trophies and Xbox Achievements for the rest of that session.
PC Gamer, GamesRadar, PCGamesN, and the Red Dead Wiki all describe the same behavior. No dedicated Rockstar support page on RDR2 cheat codes turned up, so the save-and-Trophy warning comes from those guides rather than from Rockstar directly.
The fix is a habit, not a setting. Keep a separate save from before you touch a cheat, and load that pre-cheat file whenever you want Trophies, Achievements, and normal saving back. Red Dead Online is a separate mode, and whether RDR2 is crossplay is covered in our crossplay guide.
The eight cheats you unlock through a newspaper
Most codes are live from the start. Eight stay locked until you buy the right in-game newspaper, and each paper only goes on sale once the story reaches a certain point.

Three newspapers carry these editions: the New Hanover Gazette, sold in Annesburg and Valentine; the Saint Denis Times, sold in Rhodes and Saint Denis; and the Blackwater Ledger, sold in Strawberry and Blackwater. Buy the current edition from a newsboy or general store once you've cleared the mission listed above.
One honest caveat on the fine detail. Guides agree closely on the chapter and mission that opens each paper, but they disagree on the exact title and issue number, so the Red Dead Wiki and PCGamesN list different editions for six of the eight. The safe move is to grab whatever edition is on sale after the listed mission rather than hunting a specific issue number.
How we would actually use them
Our advice is short: keep two saves, one clean and one for messing about. The codes we reach for first are the horse and wagon spawns and the meter refills, because they get you moving again without changing your story progress. Red Dead Redemption 2 still tops our best open-world games on PC list if you want the ride without cheats.
Save the money, Honor, and infinite-resource codes for a run you've already finished. They're the most fun to trigger and the fastest way to strip the challenge out of the parts of the game worth playing, so they belong on a throwaway file, not your main story. The original Red Dead Redemption cheats work as typed phrases too, if you're playing that one.
