Almost every classic GTA 3 cheat still works in the Definitive Edition, from a full weapon set to spawning a Rhino tank and flipping the weather in a single input. The one thing to settle before you touch a code: entering any cheat switches off trophies and achievements on that save, so start a second save file if you still care about them.
The button combos are identical in order across PS5, PS4, Xbox, and Switch, and only the button names change between controllers. The GTA San Andreas Definitive Edition cheats follow the same cross-platform pattern. On PC you type short text codes instead, and two old favorites did not make it into the remaster. How to enter cheats
There is no cheat menu in GTA 3. You enter codes live while you are moving around Liberty City, and the method depends on your platform.
- PS5 and PS4: press the button sequence during unpaused gameplay. You do not open a menu or pause, and there is no time limit between presses.
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: same live-input method, using the Xbox button names in the tables above.
- Nintendo Switch: same method again, with the Joy-Con or Pro Controller equivalents.
- PC: just type the cheat's text code during play. You do not need the console or a tilde key, you do not press Enter to confirm, and the codes are not case-sensitive.
Our habit is to enter the weather and tank codes first, since those are the ones you reuse most in a session. If you want the modern entry, the GTA V cheats for PS5 use the same live-input method.
What using a cheat turns off
Entering any cheat code disables trophy and achievement progress on that save file. This is the part people trip over, so treat it as the cost of every code on this page.
This is a change from the original PS4 port of GTA III, which did not disable trophies. The GTA 4 cheats only block a few achievements per session, and the lock lifts on its own. On the Definitive Edition, the outlets that track this (Inverse, with a GameRant-family source in agreement) report that cheats do switch trophies and achievements off on both PlayStation and Xbox. No dedicated first-party Rockstar support article covers this specific point, so it is corroborated by those cheat guides rather than an official notice.
The fix every guide lands on is simple, and it is the one we use: keep two saves. Cheat freely on one, and leave a clean save untouched for trophy and achievement runs.
Cheats that did not survive the remaster
Two codes from the 2001 original were confirmed removed from the Definitive Edition, so do not waste time trying them:
- Invisible Cars (the old ANICESETOFWHEELS code).
- Increased Gore (the old NASTYLIMBSCHEAT code).
GameRant attributes the cuts to the engine switch. Rockstar rebuilt the trilogy on Unreal Engine in place of the original RenderWare engine, and some cheat effects reportedly did not behave reliably on the new tech, so they were pulled.
