Is Phasmophobia crossplay? Every platform combo, explained

Phasmophobia has full crossplay across PC, PS5, PSVR2, and Xbox Series X|S. A four-person ghost-hunting team can be spread across any mix of those platforms in the same lobby.

It goes a step further than most co-op horror games. VR and flat-screen players share the same servers, so someone in a PSVR2 headset can investigate alongside a friend on a flat-screen Xbox.

Crossplay has been on by default since the console and PSVR2 launch on October 29, 2024, and you can switch it off in settings if you'd rather stay on your own platform. Below is every combination that works, plus the part people mix up most: crossplay and cross-progression are not the same thing.

The platform matrix

Every listed platform connects to every other one. There's no PC-only or console-only pool here, which is unusual for the genre. VR and flat-screen players on the same team

This is the combo we reach for. Phasmophobia treats VR and non-VR as one player group, so the split never blocks a lobby.

A PSVR2 or SteamVR player and a flat-screen player can join the same investigation and see each other in real time. The headset changes how you play, not who you can play with.

Cross-progression: your save does not travel

Crossplay lets you play together. Cross-progression would let your account carry between platforms, and Phasmophobia does not have it.

Your level, unlocks, equipment, and money stay tied to the platform where you earned them. Move from PC to PS5 and you start a fresh save with no transfer of progress.

So you can hunt with anyone, but you rebuild your gear if you switch systems. Pick your main platform before you sink hours into leveling.

How to play together across platforms

• Confirm Crossplay is on: open Options, then Game Settings, and check the Crossplay toggle.
• Have one player host or open a lobby, then share the lobby code with friends on any platform.
• Friends enter the code to drop straight into your investigation, whatever they're playing on.

How to turn crossplay off

Some players want same-platform lobbies only, usually for input parity or a steadier connection.

Open Options, then Game Settings, and switch Crossplay off. You'll then matchmake and join lobbies only with players on your own platform.

Voice chat across platforms

In-game voice chat works across every platform in a crossplay lobby. It also carries between VR and non-VR players, so the headset crowd and the flat-screen crowd can talk in the same room.

Was crossplay added in a later patch?

No. Phasmophobia shipped crossplay at the same moment the console and PSVR2 versions launched on October 29, 2024, not as a delayed update months afterward.
