Dead by Daylight has full crossplay across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, and it's been that way since Behaviour Interactive added it in August 2020.
It's on by default for everyone, so a Killer and four Survivors can come from any mix of those platforms in one trial without setting a thing up. The one wrinkle is switching it off: only console accounts get a visible toggle, and PC accounts can't disable it.
Two things get muddled with crossplay here. Whether your unlocks travel between platforms is a separate feature called cross-progression, and Dead by Daylight Mobile is a different game that doesn't connect to the PC or console version. We cover both below.
Which platforms play together
Every current PC storefront and console sits in one crossplay pool. The split people expect between last-gen and current-gen doesn't exist here: PS4 and PS5 share the pool, and so do Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

On PC, that single pool covers Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Windows Store, so where you bought the game doesn't change who you can match with. The catch is Dead by Daylight Mobile. It's a separate NetEase build with its own content and matchmaking, so it doesn't connect to the PC or console game, and no toggle changes that.
Cross-progression is a separate question
Yes, Dead by Daylight has cross-progression, and it's the piece people most often confuse with crossplay. It launched July 22, 2024, well after crossplay itself, which is why some older guides still say your account is stuck on one platform.
You sync progress by creating or signing into a Behaviour Account, then linking and picking the platforms you want kept in step. It covers PC on Steam and the Windows Store, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
Two limits are worth knowing before you rely on it. The official page notes some purchased content and DLC may not be available on every linked platform, and both the Epic Games Store and Dead by Daylight Mobile sit outside this system.
So the two features do different jobs. Crossplay decides who shares your trial; cross-progression decides whether your levels, characters, and Bloodpoints follow you when you switch systems.
How to play together across platforms
There's nothing to enable for crossplay. It's on out of the box, so matchmaking already pulls from every platform, and partying up with a friend works the same way it does on your own system.
If you also want your progress in step, that's the one bit of setup worth doing. We'd link a Behaviour Account on each platform you play, then select which ones to sync, so your unlocks are waiting whichever system you load into.
How to turn crossplay off
The toggle lives on console, and it has to be set before you're in a lobby. From the main menu, open Settings and switch Cross-Play off, since it can't be changed once you've joined a trial.
Here's the part that catches PC players out. There's no option to disable crossplay on PC, so PC accounts always matchmake cross-platform, and turning it off is a console-only choice. Voice chat across platforms
Dead by Daylight has no built-in in-match voice chat for the Killer or Survivor roles, so there's no cross-platform voice channel to set up inside a trial. That's by design rather than a crossplay gap.
For talking with friends before or after a match, players fall back on platform party chat or a third-party app like Discord. A mixed PC and console group usually parties up in Discord and keeps it running through the match.
