Is Dying Light: The Beast crossplay? Co-op, explained

No. Dying Light: The Beast does not have crossplay between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Techland's official support page says it plainly: cross-platform co-op is not possible across those platforms.

There's one exception, and it lives entirely on PC. Steam and Epic Games Store players can co-op together, and that's the only cross-storefront pairing the game supports.

So a friend on PS5 can't drop into your PC game, and an Xbox player can't join someone on PlayStation. If you want to survive Castor Woods together, you both need to be inside the same platform.

We get this one a lot because people fold "can Steam and Epic mix" in with "is it full crossplay," and the two answers are different. Let's keep them separate.

Cross-progression and cross-save

This is the part people mix up with crossplay, so it gets its own answer. Cross-progression means carrying your save to another platform, which is separate from playing together in one session.

Across platforms, there's no save transfer at all. Techland's support page confirms PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC keep fully separate saves, so a character you build on console can't move to PC or the reverse.

Inside a co-op session on the same platform, the picture is friendlier but has a catch. Every player keeps the XP, loot, and Beast Essence they pick up, and those stay on their own save.

Main story progress is the exception. It's tracked to the host, so a guest whose character is behind or ahead of the host's story state may need to replay those story beats later in their own game to line things up.

How to play co-op together

Co-op unlocks once you reach the first safe house, so push through the opening on your own before you invite anyone. After that, the flow is quick.

Open the co-op menu from the main menu to create a lobby, then invite friends straight from your platform's friends list, or browse public sessions to drop in with strangers. On PC, a Steam host and an Epic friend can group up the same way, with no separate crossplay switch to flip.

How to turn crossplay off

Setting the record straight

A quick correction, since the launch news moved fast. Dying Light: The Beast was originally announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but Techland officially cancelled those last-gen versions on July 14, 2026, citing hardware limits, and started refunding pre-orders.

So the shipped platform list is PC (Steam and Epic), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S only.
