It depends on which Overcooked you own, so the honest answer is partial. Overcooked 2, the standalone base game, has crossplay only between PC storefronts, while Overcooked! All You Can Eat plays across every current platform.

That one distinction settles most of the confusion. Fall Guys keeps things simpler with one pool everywhere, as our guide on Fall Guys crossplay shows. If you and a friend are on different consoles, the game you both need is All You Can Eat, the remastered bundle, not the base Overcooked 2.

Crossplay and whether your progress travels between systems are two different questions, and people mix them up constantly. We cover both below, plus how to invite a cross-platform friend and how to switch crossplay off.

Which Overcooked platforms play together

Here's the full matrix. "Crossplay" means the listed platforms can share the same online kitchen in one session.

Platforms Crossplay Notes
PC: Steam + Epic + GOG (Overcooked 2) Yes Team17's friend-invite system lets Steam, Epic, and GOG chefs match on PC in the base game.
PC + console, or console + console (Overcooked 2) No Team17 confirms the base game has no PC-to-console crossplay, and PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch each stay in their own pool.
PC + PS4 + PS5 + Xbox One + Xbox Series X|S + Switch (Overcooked! All You Can Eat) Yes Team17's FAQ confirms every platform cooks together, campaign and Arcade included. The discontinued Stadia version was the only exception.

The takeaway is short. Overcooked! 2 is one of our picks for the best co-op games on Switch if you play on a Switch. All You Can Eat is fully cross-platform across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch, while the base Overcooked 2 keeps its crossplay to PC storefronts only.

Why the answer splits between the two games

The two products look alike on a store page, but they handle crossplay differently. Overcooked 2 launched without crossplay and later added it in a June 2021 patch, which connected Steam, Epic, and GOG players on PC.

That patch is as far as the base game went. Officially, only PC-storefront crossplay is confirmed for Overcooked 2, and no PC-to-console or console-to-console crossplay has shipped for it since.

You'll see guides that describe Overcooked 2 as broadly cross-platform, and that overstates it. Team17 has not republished a current FAQ for the base game, but every recent source still reports the same PC-only state, so treat wider claims for Overcooked 2 with caution.

All You Can Eat is the remaster of both Overcooked games plus their DLC, rebuilt with full crossplay across every platform. If cross-console co-op is what you're after, that's the version to buy. Our It Takes Two crossplay guide covers its co-op and Friend's Pass rules.

Cross-progression and cross-save are a separate question

No. Neither Overcooked 2 nor Overcooked! All You Can Eat has cross-progression or cross-save, and this is the piece most often confused with crossplay.

Team17 has not published cross-save support for either title. Your unlocked levels, chefs, and completion progress save per platform and per storefront, so a campaign you finish on PS5 does not carry to PC or to a different console family.

The two features do different jobs. Crossplay decides who shares your kitchen; cross-progression would decide whether your progress follows you to a new system, and Overcooked simply doesn't offer that.

How to set up cross-platform co-op

In All You Can Eat, crossplay is on by default, so there's nothing to switch on first. The path just depends on the mode you're playing.

For Arcade mode, use online matchmaking and you'll be grouped with players on any platform automatically. For the campaign, invite a friend by their Team17 ID, which is a name plus a fixed #number tag, from the in-game friends tab.

In the base Overcooked 2, PC players add each other the same way to cook across Steam, Epic, and GOG. There's no invite path to console, because base-game crossplay to console doesn't exist.

If you'd rather keep lobbies to your own platform, All You Can Eat has an in-game settings toggle to turn cross-platform play off, per Team17's FAQ. The base Overcooked 2 has no such setting, since PC-to-console play isn't there to disable in the first place.

Voice chat across platforms

Overcooked! All You Can Eat has built-in voice chat with an adjustable microphone and mute controls, confirmed in Team17's FAQ, so a mixed group can talk without a second app. This is the setup we'd reach for on a chaotic four-cook night. The base Overcooked 2 is less clear, and Team17 hasn't officially documented its voice support. Players report in-game chat on PS4 and Xbox One, while PC and Switch groups generally fall back on a third-party app like Discord.
