Helldivers 2 has full crossplay between PS5 and PC (Steam), it's on by default, and there's an in-game toggle if you'd rather switch it off.
The game only ships on two platforms, so there's no tangle of console pools to sort through. A PlayStation friend and a Steam friend can drop into the same mission with no extra setup, which makes it one of the smoother squads we run.
Worth clearing up early: crossplay lets you play together, while cross-progression carries your save between platforms, and Helldivers 2 has the first and not the second.

Cross-progression: does your progress carry over?
No. Arrowhead Game Studios has said there are "no plans to implement cross-progression at this time," so your PS5 and PC saves stay completely separate.
That means your level, unlocks, samples, medals, and premium currency live on whichever platform you earned them. ARC Raiders takes the opposite tack and syncs progress to an account, as our guide on whether ARC Raiders is crossplay explains. They do not move across.
Linking a PSN account to Steam is a separate thing entirely. Arrowhead has required that account link for crossplay and account identity since mid-2024, and it enables cross-platform play plus shared trophy and achievement tracking.
What the link does not do is move your progress. Switch from PS5 to PC and you start a fresh save.
How to squad up across PS5 and PC
Because crossplay is on out of the box, most of the time you just queue and the game fills your squad from both platforms.
When we're pulling a squad together, the invite path depends on which friends list your teammate is on. Add them through PSN or Steam (whichever matches how the accounts are linked) and send a squad invite.

How to turn crossplay off
Prefer to match only with players on your own platform? Head to Options > Gameplay > Enable Crossplay and toggle it off.
That restricts matchmaking to PS5-only or PC-only, depending on where you're playing. One heads-up: some players report the toggle flipping back on after a patch, so it's worth re-checking Options after each update.
Is Helldivers 2 on Xbox?
No, and that's exactly why the crossplay answer is so simple. As of this verification the game ships only on PS5 and PC, so there is no Xbox player pool to cross into.
You'll find third-party guides that list an Xbox crossplay option for Helldivers 2. The official PlayStation announcement names only PS5 and PC, with teammates on PC able to play alongside PS5 players and the reverse, and no Xbox version mentioned anywhere, so treat those Xbox claims as inaccurate.
