Is Deep Rock Galactic crossplay? Platforms, explained

Partly. Deep Rock Galactic has crossplay only between Xbox (Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S) and the PC version you buy from the Microsoft Store, and nothing else in the game reaches across ecosystems.

That single pairing runs on Xbox Play Anywhere, so an Xbox console player and a Microsoft Store PC player can share the same crew with no setup. It's the only cross-ecosystem crossplay the game has.

Everything else is kept apart. Steam players can only dig with other Steam players, PlayStation players can only dig with other PlayStation players, and there's no Nintendo Switch version at all.

Which platforms actually connect

Why Steam and PlayStation can't join the Xbox pool

The Xbox pairing exists because Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store PC version sit on the same Xbox Play Anywhere account system. Steam simply isn't part of that system, so a Steam copy of the game stays in its own pool with no bridge to the Xbox side. PlayStation is its own case, and it's the one people misread most. PS4 and PS5 owners can play together, but that's cross-generation compatibility within the PlayStation family, not crossplay with another ecosystem.

Ghost Ship Games confirmed the PS4-and-PS5 pairing at the console launch. What it does not do is connect PlayStation to Steam or to Xbox, so a PS5 player and an Xbox player still can't team up.

There's no Switch version to bring into it

If you're hunting for a Nintendo option, there isn't one. Deep Rock Galactic has never shipped on Switch, so it's absent from crossplay because it's absent from the platform entirely.

Ghost Ship Games has pointed to the hardware's memory limits as the reason a port didn't happen. Treat any listing that puts Deep Rock Galactic on Switch as wrong, because the game isn't there to play in the first place.

Cross-progression and cross-save: the separate question

People mix up crossplay and cross-progression constantly, so it's worth splitting them. Crossplay is who you can mine alongside; cross-progression is whether your save, upgrades, and purchases follow you to another platform.

Deep Rock Galactic's cross-progression tracks the same lines its crossplay does. Progress and purchases sync automatically between Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and the Microsoft Store PC version through Xbox Play Anywhere, per Ghost Ship Games' official crossplay page. There's one more piece on the PlayStation side. Ghost Ship Games shipped a PS4-to-PS5 cross-generation save transfer in update 1.08, so a PlayStation upgrade carries your progress forward.

What doesn't carry: there's no cross-progression between Steam and any console version, and none between PlayStation and the Xbox or Microsoft Store side. Your Steam save stays on Steam.

How to team up across Xbox and the Microsoft Store

There's no separate crossplay toggle to hunt for. The Xbox and Microsoft Store pairing works automatically because both run on the same Xbox Play Anywhere account, so you're already in the shared pool the moment you launch.

To group up, invite your friend the normal way through the Xbox friends list or the in-game invite, exactly as you would with someone on your own Xbox. Xbox Play Anywhere links the same save and purchase across your Xbox console and your Windows Store PC, so the account travels with you. There's no invite path between Steam, PlayStation, and that Xbox pool, so this only works inside the one pairing. And because the pools are already walled off from each other, there's nothing to switch off between them. Within the Xbox and Microsoft Store pairing, no official source describes an opt-out either.

Setting the record straight on Deep Rock Galactic crossplay

A few outdated claims still circulate, so here's the record straight, and we always flag this one. Deep Rock Galactic does not have broad crossplay across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Steam and Xbox players cannot play together, whatever a stray platform listing suggests. And the PS4-and-PS5 pairing gets described as crossplay when it's really cross-generation play inside PlayStation, so don't read it as a bridge to Steam or Xbox.

What about voice chat across platforms

Voice chat behavior inside the Xbox and Microsoft Store crossplay pairing isn't addressed on Ghost Ship Games' official crossplay page. Because it's not officially documented, we're flagging it as unverified rather than assuming it works a certain way, and the game's own crossplay page is the place to confirm current behavior.
