No, Elden Ring Nightreign doesn't support crossplay. A PC player and a PS5 player can't run an Expedition together, and the same wall sits between PlayStation and Xbox, so your three-player squad has to be on the same platform family.
That matters more here than in most games, because Nightreign is built around co-op. Each run is a three-Nightfarer Expedition against a Nightlord, so the crossplay question is really a question about who you're allowed to invite.
FromSoftware director Junya Ishizaki confirmed the policy before launch, saying the game would have "cross-generational play but not cross-platform play." Below we lay out every pairing, answer cross-save separately, and walk through the squad setup.
Nightreign cross-platform play, pool by pool
Nightreign runs on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, and each of those camps matchmakes on its own. In this table, crossplay means starting or joining an Expedition with a player on the other side.

The pattern is the same one FromSoftware used for the original Elden Ring. The only play that crosses devices is cross-generation, and it stays inside a single brand. Anything that crosses brands, PC to console or PlayStation to Xbox, isn't supported.
Cross-save and cross-progression
Cross-progression is a separate question from crossplay, and people mix the two up constantly. Crossplay is about playing together in the same session; cross-save is about your unlocks moving between devices.
Nightreign has no cross-progression or cross-save between platforms. Your relic collection, unlocked Nightfarers, and remembrance progress live on the platform where you earned them.
So if you switch from PlayStation to PC, or from Xbox to PlayStation, you start over. There's no transfer path between the three brands, and the game doesn't sync a shared profile behind the scenes.
How to squad up for an Expedition
First, get everyone onto the same platform family. Once that's settled, grouping up takes about a minute from the Roundtable Hold.
Open the session options and set a matching Multiplayer Password on every account. Type it exactly the same way on each side, since it's the filter that pairs you rather than dropping you in with strangers.

There's no crossplay toggle to enable, because a cross-family connection doesn't exist in the game. For the same reason, there's nothing to turn off: you can't accidentally match with a PC player from console, so there's no opt-out setting to hunt for.
Voice chat in Nightreign
Nightreign has no built-in voice chat. The default way to coordinate a run is the in-game ping system, which is enough to flag a boss, a route, or a revive.
For actual talking, use your platform's own party chat, so PSN party, Xbox party, or Steam voice, or a third-party app like Discord. None of those bridge across families either, which is one more reason a mixed-platform group can't really play as one.
Did the Duo Expeditions update add crossplay?
No. Nightreign's post-launch content, including the two-player Duo Expeditions mode, changed how many players a run supports, not which platforms can connect. The platform-family rule is unchanged.
If you've seen a claim that a patch quietly switched on cross-platform play, treat it with caution. Nothing FromSoftware has shipped since launch has opened matchmaking between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Will Nightreign get crossplay later?
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco haven't announced full crossplay for Nightreign, and Ishizaki's pre-launch statement pointed the other way. This page covers what ships today, not what might change in a future update.
