Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) has never had crossplay, so a friend on PC can't drop into a match with someone on PS4 or Xbox One, and PlayStation and Xbox don't mix either.

Every platform matchmakes on its own. You and a friend need the game on the same platform to play together.

This is an easy one to answer with confidence, because the game is finished. EA's last content update landed on April 29, 2020, and no cross-platform feature ever shipped, before that date or since.

Who plays with whom

  • PC players, whether on the EA App/Origin or Steam, only match with other PC players.
  • PS4 players only match with other PS4 players.
  • Xbox One players only match with other Xbox One players.
  • PC, PS4, and Xbox One never connect to each other.

There's a wrinkle worth naming on PC. EA has never stated that the EA App/Origin release and the Steam release share a matchmaking pool for this game, so we don't count even PC-to-PC across storefronts as confirmed crossplay. EA's newer Battlefield does support it, and our Battlefield 2042 crossplay guide breaks down its generation-split pools.

Battlefront 2 platform matrix

In this table, playing together means being in the same online match.

Platforms Play together? Notes
PC (Origin/EA App), PC (Steam) No Same game, but there's no official EA statement that the storefronts share a cross-platform matchmaking pool.
PC, PS4 No No crossplay; each platform matchmakes separately.
PC, Xbox One No No crossplay; each platform matchmakes separately.
PS4, Xbox One No No crossplay between the two consoles.

Read it as one rule: match with people on your exact platform, and nothing crosses over.

About that "September 2021 crossplay update"

If you've seen a guide claiming EA added crossplay to Battlefront II in a September 2021 patch, that update didn't happen. There's no such feature anywhere in EA's patch history.

The timeline settles it. The game's last content update was April 29, 2020, so there was no live team left in 2021 to build and ship a crossplay patch.

EA's own community team has said on the official EA Answer HQ forums that there are no plans to add cross-platform play, and Wikipedia's release history lists no crossplay feature. Treat the 2021 claim as false, not fact, no matter how many pages repeat it.

Cross-progression and cross-save

People mix this up with crossplay, so it gets its own answer. Crossplay is about playing together in one match; cross-progression is about carrying your account's progress to another platform.

Battlefront II doesn't have it. Your credits, Star Cards, unlocks, and rank stay tied to the platform account you earned them on, and none of it carries between PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

So if you pick the game up on a different platform, you start over from scratch. There's no cross-save to link one account to another.

How to play Battlefront 2 with friends

There's no crossplay setting to switch on, because the feature was never built. The only way to squad up is to own the game on the same platform as your friends.

On PC, party up with other PC players and send invites through the in-game menu. If you want an EA shooter that squads up across platforms, see Apex Legends crossplay. On PS4 or Xbox One, invite friends from your platform's own friends list the usual way.

Because there's no cross-platform connection to begin with, there's also nothing to turn off. You won't find a crossplay toggle buried in the options, since the game simply doesn't have one.

Voice chat between platforms

In-game voice chat, where it's available, runs on your own platform only. There's no cross-platform voice, which makes sense once you know the matches themselves never cross platforms.
