No, Fallout 76 does not have crossplay between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. A PS5 player can't drop into an Xbox friend's Appalachia, and neither of them can join someone on PC.

There's exactly one exception, and it lives inside the PC side. The Steam version and the Xbox App/Microsoft Store version of the PC game run on the same servers, so those two storefronts play together as one pool.

We get asked this constantly, because a few write-ups fold that PC-storefront situation into "crossplay" and then bury the real answer. So let's keep the two things separate and lay out every combination.

Platforms Play together? Notes
PC via Steam, PC via Xbox App/Microsoft Store Yes Both PC storefronts sign in through the same Bethesda.net account and run on the same PC servers.
PC vs Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S No Bethesda support states plainly that "PC and Xbox Console versions of Fallout 76 do not share progress," and they don't play together.
PC vs PS4/PS5 No There's no cross-platform play between PC and PlayStation.
Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S vs PS4, PS5 No Xbox and PlayStation never connect in Fallout 76.
Full console/PC crossplay Under investigation Bethesda said in February 2026 it's looking into console crossplay. That's exploration, not a confirmed feature or a date.

The console split is just as firm as the PC-to-console one. If you want survival games that squad up more easily, our roundup of the top survival games on Xbox is a good next stop. Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S vs PS4, PS5 never connect, so an Xbox player can't squad up with a PlayStation friend.

The one place Fallout 76 connects: Steam and the Xbox App on PC

This is the part that gets mislabeled, so it's worth being precise. The Steam release and the Xbox App/Microsoft Store release are both the PC version of the game, and Bethesda routes them through the same Bethesda.net account and the same PC servers.

The practical result is that a Steam player and a Microsoft Store player are already in the same pool. That isn't crossplay with consoles, though, so we keep it labeled as PC-only interoperability rather than folding it into the crossplay answer. For the platform details, see our guide to whether DayZ is crossplay.

Cross-progression and cross-save

Crossplay and cross-progression are different questions, and people mix them up all the time. Crossplay is about playing together right now; cross-progression is about carrying your character to another platform.

Fallout 76 has partial cross-progression, and only inside that PC pool. Your characters, progress, and in-game items carry over between Steam and the Xbox App/Microsoft Store version when you use the same Bethesda.net account.

There's an important catch even within PC. Atoms, Season Tickets, and Fallout 1st membership balances do not transfer between the two PC storefronts, because each one is tied to the platform where you earned or bought it.

Across the bigger divide there's nothing to carry. You can't move a character between PC and Xbox console, and you can't move one between PC or Xbox and PlayStation. Each console's save stays on that console.

How to play together, and why there's no crossplay to turn off

Inside the PC pool, setup is automatic. Log into the same Bethesda.net account on either Steam or the Xbox App, and you're placed in the shared PC pool without touching a setting, so you can invite the other storefront's players straight from your friends list.

Across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation there's no invite path to set up and no toggle to switch off. The pools are separated by design rather than by an opt-out, so if you were hunting for a "turn crossplay off" option, there isn't one because there's no cross-platform play running in the first place.

Voice chat follows the same lines. Fallout 76 has in-game proximity and team voice chat on every platform, plus each console's own party chat, but none of it bridges platforms that can't already share a world.

Is console crossplay coming to Fallout 76?

Maybe, but nothing is committed. Bethesda's creative director Jon Rush said on February 9, 2026 that the team is investigating crossplay for consoles.

Yes. Both PC storefronts use the same Bethesda.net account and the same servers, so they're in one pool.
No. Atoms, Season Tickets, and Fallout 1st balances stay on the platform where you got them, even though your character transfers.
Bethesda said in February 2026 that it's investigating this, but nothing is confirmed or scheduled.
