Partly. DayZ has partial crossplay: since Update 1.29 in April 2026 it connects Xbox consoles with the Microsoft Store version of PC through Xbox Play Anywhere, but not Steam PC. PlayStation has no crossplay with any other platform.
So who you can squad up with comes down to which version you own. Steam and PlayStation each sit in their own separate pool, while Xbox and Microsoft Store PC finally share one.
Two things get mixed up here. Crossplay is whether different platforms share servers; cross-progression is whether your character and gear follow you between them, and DayZ handles those very differently.
Which platforms play together
Here's the full picture as of Update 1.29.
| Platforms | Crossplay | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Microsoft Store/Xbox app) | Yes | Share one server pool via Xbox Play Anywhere since Update 1.29 (April 8, 2026). Xbox cross-gen play, One against Series X|S, is supported too. |
| PC (Steam), Xbox | No | Steam runs its own build and server pool on its own patch schedule, so Steam players can't join Xbox or Microsoft Store servers. |
| PC (Steam), PS4/PS5 | No | No crossplay between Steam PC and PlayStation on either PC build. |
| PS4, PS5 | Yes | Same-platform continuity across PlayStation generations. This isn't crossplay with Xbox or PC. |
| Xbox, PS4/PS5 | No | No Xbox to PlayStation crossplay. |
The one bridge is Xbox Play Anywhere. Buy DayZ on Xbox and you also get the Windows copy on the same Microsoft account, and both drop into the same server list. DayZ is one of our picks for the best Xbox survival games if you want more to survive on the console.
How to play together across platforms
There's no crossplay toggle to flip for the Xbox and Microsoft Store pool. Owning DayZ on Xbox grants the Windows Play Anywhere copy on the same Microsoft account, and both connect to the same official and community server list automatically.
Within that shared pool, servers are tagged by input method, keyboard and mouse or controller. Microsoft Store PC players generally join servers flagged for keyboard and mouse, which keeps matches fair against Xbox controller players.
To play with a friend, you both join the same server from that shared list. Ark splits its pools in a similar way, and our guide on whether Ark is cross-platform untangles the two games. Steam and PlayStation friends can't join you, since they aren't in the pool at all.
Cross-progression and cross-save
No, DayZ has no account-linked cross-progression or cross-save. Your character and gear live on the server you're playing, not on a portable profile that travels with your account.
That holds even inside the shared Xbox and PC pool. Nothing carries between Steam PC, Microsoft Store PC, Xbox, or PlayStation, so switching platform means starting fresh on whatever server you join.
Can you turn DayZ crossplay off?
There's no player-facing off switch. Instead of disabling crossplay, you pick which input-tagged server to join, so a Microsoft Store PC player who wants to avoid controller lobbies chooses a keyboard and mouse server.
For Steam and PlayStation players there's nothing to switch off. They were never in the shared pool, so they only ever see their own platform's servers.
Voice chat across platforms
DayZ's official Update 1.29 materials don't document how voice chat behaves across the shared Xbox and PC pool. We won't state something Bohemia Interactive hasn't confirmed, so treat cross-platform voice as unconfirmed for now.
For talking to a squad in the meantime, players lean on platform party chat or a third-party app like Discord.
What older guides still get wrong
Plenty of guides still say DayZ has no crossplay at all. That was true for years, but it stopped being true with Update 1.29 in April 2026, which added the Xbox and Microsoft Store PC pool.

The flip side is just as common. Some now imply Steam joined in too, and it didn't. Steam PC keeps its own build and its own servers, walled off from the Xbox and Microsoft Store pool. Fallout 76 walls off its platforms the same way, as our guide on Fallout 76's platform split explains.
