The Division 2 has crossplay only between platforms in the same family, but not across them. All three PC storefronts share one pool, PS4 and PS5 play together, and Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S play together, yet PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players still can't mix.
So the honest answer is partial crossplay, not the full version some roundups imply. Ubisoft has officially announced wider crossplay for The Division 2 in 2026, but it hasn't shipped and carries no confirmed date, so nothing below assumes it.
That gap is the whole reason division 2 crossplay confuses people. The game is more connected than "no crossplay," and less connected than "cross-platform," which is why a plain matrix helps.
The platforms that share a pool
Here's exactly who plays with whom right now, straight from Ubisoft's setup for the game.
| Platforms | Play together? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam), PC (Epic Games Store), PC (Ubisoft Connect) | Yes | Same PC build sharing one server pool. Cross-progression between them is automatic when you log into the same Ubisoft account. |
| PS4, PS5 | Yes | Cross-generation play within the PlayStation family. |
| Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Cross-generation play within the Xbox family. |
| PC, PlayStation | No | No PC-to-console crossplay as of August 23, 2026. |
| PC, Xbox | No | No PC-to-console crossplay as of August 23, 2026. |
| PlayStation, Xbox | No | No console-to-console crossplay as of August 23, 2026. |
The pattern is simple once you see it: cross-generation and cross-storefront play works, cross-family play does not. Destiny 2 goes fully cross-family instead, as our Destiny 2 crossplay guide lays out.
Why the three PC versions count as one
This is the part most guides skip. Whether you own The Division 2 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or Ubisoft Connect, you're on the same build and the same matchmaking pool.
A Steam player and an Epic player can squad up with no extra step, because to the game they're just two PC players. So if you and a friend bought it on different PC stores, you're already good to go.
Consoles work the same way inside their own family. Every PS4 and PS5 owner shares one PlayStation pool, and every Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owner shares one Xbox pool.
Cross-progression is a separate question
People treat crossplay and cross-progression as one feature, and they aren't. Crossplay is who you can play with. Cross-progression is whether your agent, gear, and stash follow you to another system.
The Division 2 handles cross-progression only on PC. For a squad shooter that plays across PS5, Xbox, and PC out of the box, see ARC Raiders crossplay. Sign into the same Ubisoft account across Steam, Epic, and Ubisoft Connect, and your character and progress carry across all three automatically, per Ubisoft's cross-platform content sharing support page.
It stops at the console line. A PlayStation character stays on PlayStation, an Xbox character stays on Xbox, and neither transfers to PC or to the other console. There's no console-to-console or console-to-PC save transfer today. For the platform details, see our guide to Ready or Not crossplay.
Playing together within a family
Because crossplay inside a family is on by default, there's no crossplay switch to hunt for. You use the normal in-game social menu.
- On PC, invite or join through the friends list the same way you would with any teammate. Steam, Epic, and Ubisoft Connect friends all show up in the one PC pool.
- On console, cross-generation play is automatic. For more to play on PlayStation, our roundup of the best PS5 shooters is a good start. A PS4 player and a PS5 player, or an Xbox One player and an Xbox Series X|S player, group up with no toggle.
- Across families, there's no invite flow to find, because PC-to-console and PlayStation-to-Xbox play don't exist yet.
Turning crossplay off
There's no documented player-facing toggle to switch off the within-family pooling. Ubisoft doesn't publish a separate on or off control for the shared PC storefronts or for cross-generation console play.
In practice you don't need one. The only crossplay The Division 2 has keeps you with players on closely related systems, and the cross-family mixing that a toggle would normally block isn't in the game to begin with.
The 2026 roadmap: announced, not shipped
You'll see headlines saying The Division 2 is getting full crossplay. That's officially announced, and it's the one claim worth pinning down precisely.
Ubisoft's announced 2026 roadmap for the game includes expanded crossplay across consoles and PC. As of August 23, 2026, that expansion has no confirmed live date and hasn't rolled out, so it's a planned feature rather than a current one.
Treat any "PC and console can finally play together" guide as premature until Ubisoft ships it and names a date. Borderlands 3 already crossed that line in 2022, as our guide on Borderlands 3's crossplay explains. The matrix above is the live state; the roadmap is the promise.
Voice chat across platforms

Cross-platform voice chat behavior isn't officially documented for The Division 2, so treat it as unconfirmed rather than guaranteed. Within a single family, you can fall back on the platform's own party chat to talk with your squad.
